Electric Mobility

Electric vehicles decrease our reliance on crude oil, which is presently very high and non-sustainable in the long-run. Oil reserves saved with electric mobility can easily be re-directed towards other energy-intensive sectors, such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing.

In 2014-15, GKAFC organized a one-day conference on ‘Sustainable Mobility with Electric Vehicles’ that was thrown open to both users and representatives from the automobile sector. A Scheme called FAME India – Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles was launched by the NMEM (National Mission on Electric Mobility), Department of Heavy Industry in order to increase demand for Electric Vehicles and hybrid cars. The conference discussed innovative ways to subsidize and incentivize manufacture of electric vehicles in India.

Pilot projects GKAFC has taken under its wing include:

  • Electric 2 Wheelers
  • XEV Cars and LCVs
  • XEV 2 wheelers and 3 wheelers
  • XEV Buses
  • Public Charging Infrastructure – Renewable & Grid

Other developments in the area of Electric Vehicles by the technology team:

  • Facilitated Bid Assessment for procurement of 20 EVs for a ULB major, under the smart transportation initiative.
  • Organized an Awareness Campaign e-Bikeathon, for promoting adoption of EVs among masses & community. It was an overwhelming response, wherein more than 120 participants.

GKAFC intends to provide full steam support to FAME India and is putting in efforts to rope in support from a clutch of other urban local bodies such as AUDA and AMC on such pilot projects.
